UPCOMING ACT WORKSHOPS FOR ACTORS, DIRECTORS, CREW, AND THE CURIOUS

Directing with ACT; Saturday, Feb. 22, 8:45 to 12:30., with Nancy Hansen*

Part One will review policies, procedures and requirements for directing with ACT. Part Two will be discussion of preaudition prep, audition formats, rehearsal planning, overview of blocking, script analysis and cast communication and more.

*NOTE: While this is required for all ACT directors to take once, repeat attendees are welcome and encouraged. 

Script Analysis for Actors and Directors: A Study of Of Mice and Men

Using John Steinbeck's classic Of Mice and Men as an example, teachers Bob Franklin and James Raby will present a highly interactive workshop designed to help both actors and directors understand effective script analysis. This workshop is presented free of charge. Participants are encouraged to review script excerpts to be analyzed in class ahead of time.

Blocking Strategies: Saturday, March 28, 9:30 - 12:00 with Nancy Hansen

Blocking is tough - and critical for both actors and directors in communicating your analysis and vision of the script.  This is another participatory class in which we'll examine different methods of blocking and practice with a variety of scenes as well as share best practices. Stage Managers who wish to practice transcribing rehearsal blocking are welcome to join us.

Theatrical Jazz and Tap Fundamentals with Anna Lewis

$15/ session OR $20/ for both

Theatrical Jazz Dance -
This class will focus on the fundamentals of jazz dance technique, with emphasis on enhancing your body awareness and stage presence.   During the first half of class, basic body positions, locomotor skills, steps, and stylized walks will be broken down.  The second half of the class will consist of learning a combination to experience the work of well-known Broadway choreographers, such as Jerome Robbins, George Faison, and Bob Fosse.

No experience needed.  All levels welcome. Open to +14

Attire: Dance/ active wear or comfortable clothing you can move in.  Jazz shoes or ballet slippers recommended, but not required. 

Tap Dance -
This class will break down the fundamentals of tap dance, from single sound to multiple sound steps.  It will teach you how to use your body effectively to create the sounds and movements.  You'll learn the basic tap step families which are essential to mastering the building blocks of tap technique.  A highlight at the end of each class will be learning a famous Vaudeville routine that has been shared by tap dancers since the early 1900's.

No experience needed.  All levels welcome. Open to 14+

Tap shoes recommended, but if you don't have any, just wear smooth/ hard soled shoes.
