The mission of the ACT Youth Wing is to provide the broadest range of theatrical experience and education we can to the greatest number of young people we can while maintaining the highest level of quality we can in a safe and welcoming haven.
Workshops run concurrently throughout the school year. Youth Wing meetings are held on the third Saturday of every month. These free meetings are held from August - May at the Aiken Community Theatre on Newberry Street in downtown Aiken. Grades 4 - 7 meet from 11:30 - 1:00 and grades 8 - 12 meet from 1:00 - 3:00. Classes are designed to teach basic theatre stage skills, such as Stage Movement, Finding Your Character, Improvisation and Script Analysis in an age-appropriate and engaging manner. We want to teach the theatre arts, but we also want our members to have fun and form friendships with other like-minded students from throughout our community.
In 2011, we established the Immersion Fund, supported by the Broadway & Beyond Gala. With the monies raised, we are able to take a select group of students to intensive regional workshops, such as Broadway Student Summit in NYC, Camp Broadway in Atlanta, and the Southeastern Theatre Conference. ACT also offers its own in-depth workshops through the ACT Academy which offers various short term classes for a fee. The opportunities are wide and varied!
