Aiken Community Playhouse unveils new name, new branding

The Aiken Community Playhouse is unveiling not only a new look, but a new name this season. The Board of Directors of the Aiken Community Playhouse is pleased to announce that effective this season, the organization will now be known as the Aiken Community Theatre. Along with the new name, ACT is launching a new website and new logos for both the theatre and its Youth Wing program.

As the organization looks toward the future, the Board of Directors has chosen the new name and new image to better convey the goals and culture of the organization. The new acronym, ACT, is also a clever nod to the theatre.

“The use of ‘theatre’ in the name as opposed to ‘playhouse’ is a more modern phrasing which evokes the organization’s role as a place not only to produce plays and musicals, but to learn about all facets of theatre arts,” said Jeff Mastromonico, ACT’s marketing director.

The branding elements for Youth Wing tie into ACT’s new color scheme and overall look. This cements the theatre’s youth program as an integral part of a mission to provide hands-on educational opportunities to community members. The ACT board is working to ensure that the new website, AikenCommunityTheatre.org, will provide patrons with a user-friendly experience that allows simple ticket sales and easy-to-navigate pages of information about upcoming shows, auditions, and other events.

The organization plans to celebrate the new branding with a tie-in to the kick off of the first show of the 2018-2019 season, The Addams Family: A Musical.  Patrons attending opening night on Thursday, Sept. 6 will take home a special surprise to commemorate the theatre’s new look and name.

The Aiken Community Theatre was established in 1952 as Aiken Community Playhouse by a small group of community members with a common goal of providing entertainment for Aiken residents. Since those early days, much has changed. From moving into a beautiful new facility, to strengthening and expanding youth and educational programs, to producing shows year-round, ACT has become a busy and ever-expanding hub of the arts in our community.

Over the years, many community members have found fulfillment and meaning by supporting the arts through the gift of their time and talents at the theatre. ACT continues to strive towards providing an outstanding experience not only to audiences, but to every volunteer, cast, and crew member.

“The board of directors feels strongly that this new cohesive, recognizable branding will better celebrate the organization’s spirit of community, interpersonal connection, and fun while attracting new participants,” said Thurmond Whatley, executive director of the ACT Board.
