Youth Wing Workshops

Aiken Community Theatre Youth Wing is announcing some exciting new changes to our monthly workshops! Starting with our 2019 – 2020 year, we will be splitting our monthly Saturday workshops into two semesters: Semester I workshops will be held 8/24, 9/21, 10/19 and 11/16 with a free performance on 12/14, and Semester II workshops will be held 1/18, 2/8, 3/14 and 4/18 with a free performance on 5/16. Grades 4 – 7 will meet from 11:00am – 12:30pm and grades 8 – 12 will meet from 1:00pm – 2:30pm.

In addition, we will be introducing a tuition fee for students who attend. Tuition will be $25 per child per semester and $10 per semester for each additional sibling.

Why have you introduced a tuition fee?

By introducing tuition to our monthly workshops, we hope to help our teachers better plan each month’s class and tailor the workshops to the students who have signed up. This will also allow teachers to build on the knowledge taught during each workshop and work with students month-to-month on scenes or monologues to be performed at the last workshop at the end of the semester. Tuition fees will also help provide for additional educational opportunities for Youth Wing such as guest instructors.

Why have the dates and times changed?

Dates have shifted to ensure that we are at the Aiken Community Theatre for every workshop, and times have shifted to relieve the congestion of two different groups arriving and leaving at the same time. This should allow classes to start on time, so please arrive 10 minutes before the start of your workshop to allow time for sign-in and registration.

What is the performance at the end of each semester?

The performance at the end of each semester will highlight the skills and techniques learned throughout the semester. Students will perform monologues and scenes in front of an audience and the performances will be free. The number of tickets per student will be announced at a later date. Students who do not wish to perform at the end of the semester will not be required to. If your child does not wish to perform, please let the teacher know as soon as possible, and we’ll find a backstage tech role for your child. The crew is an important part of any production!

How do I sign up?

Parents can register their children and pay tuition in person at the workshops, and we will accept cash, check or credit card. Parents will also need to sign release forms for their children, available at registration. We will also email these forms out to students already on our mailing list and post them on our website.

Can I join at any time?

Yes, we’d love to have you!

What if I want to bring an out-of-town guest/What if I just want to try one workshop before committing?

If this is your first time at an ACT Youth Wing monthly workshop, you will be able to try your first class for free!
