Based on S.E. Hinton’s novel about rival teenage gangs in 1960s Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Greasers come from troubled working-class backgrounds, contrasted with the Socials, whose members are from upper-middle-class families.

• This is a Youth Wing show and is open to any 4-12 grader (ages 9-18)
• While in the original book “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton all of the greasers are male, 3 characters will be changed to female and will be cast female. The characters are Johnny, Pony and Darry.

Notes:

• You are highly encouraged to read the book “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton before the auditions to get to know the story and the characters
• Auditions will consist of short monologues — monologues are provided, they do not have to be memorized, just be familiar with it and show character. Monologues will be a private/closed audition. Cold scene work will also be done in small groups.
• Anyone with a reading disability that needs access to the scenes ahead of time, please contact the theatre box office
• Rehearsal days will be Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays
• Please bring your calendar to note all rehearsal conflicts. We will rehearse over Fall Break
• Please wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes
• Be sure to list all conflicts on the Audition Form
• This show will be performed in the Black Box at Aiken Community Theatre and there will be NO microphones. Please be sure to project your voice at auditions as you will need to do this in the performances.
